FEATURED NEWS ARTICLE

Huffington Post- "How A Prison Arts Program Transform Homeless Veteran;  November 11, 2014

"creating Artwork"

As I see it Art is born out of the need to express.
That expression over time becomes A style, A swagger, habits, or  technique used to present that self of expression in the world.  for me, it was painting art, for others, it could be woodwork, sewing, whistling, jogging, and an array of many other ports to dock.
It's all communication.  attractive communication that transcend languages, cultures, and worlds. This is your light-  this is how you shine!!!

"HOMELESS NO MORE"  (NO ONE LEFT BEHIND)
22 X 28"

The silent but tragic signs of homelessness  among military veterans (whether housing, health, or sense of well being). Homeless for me became a terms of detachment. Separated from a once vibrant world and family you once had the honor to protect and serve. Veterans make up one out of every four individuals among the often time forgotten homeless poplulation. This art comes as visual notice to those veterans, their families, and communities that help is avallable here and now from local Veterans Organizatios to the national Veteran Administration.

"AFTER THE STORM"
17 X 22"

This idea concerns the devastating aftermath of hurricane Katrina, a category 5 Atlantic hurricane that caused over 1,800 deaths and $125 billion in damage in August 2005. New Orleans' population was the focal point of the news, but curiosity also had me considering the the affect on other animal life including mother birds who could not carry their eggs as they fled.

"SUN-SETTING"

A moment of reflection we all find ourselves when basking in the warmthness of an evening sun. The stillness of thoughts often leads many to ponder the beauty of life and why we are "the chosen one" to have the pleasure of it.

"ELEVACION DEL ESPIRITO"
24 x 30"

Depicts the “Spirit of Detroit” rising gloriously under the united power of the people as the light of creativity shine brightly once again on the streets of Michigan's Motor City following the devastation of the 2008 housing crisis.

"ONE LAST LOOK BAGS"

Truly convinced that a decision must be made with her life, she painfully takes “ONE LAST LOOK”, to either go forward to a promising future clouded by uncertainty, or return to the pain of the past that offered only tears and shattered dreams.

The beauty of other artists artwork is educational and inspiring, however, it is only when you experience the curated process yourself that you get to know your own inner joy that leads to inner peace. Trained professional artists require dedicated hours of hard work and sacrifice to fit within standards and guidelines that may be required for their job. Discouraging to say the least. This method is not for everybody, nor was it for some of the world's most renowned artists like Van Gogh, Dali, and Picasso. They Surely thought outside of the box-  not in it.  freedom of self expression was paramount. Fortunately you are in a position to do the same as an ordinary person looking to express an extra ordinary version of existence.

"HOMELESS NO MORE" (the exit)
24 X 30"

“Homeless No More" hereto is the view seen aroumnd me as I struggled with my own experience of detachment. It's that stunning moment when you first realize homeless is not limited to the battle fatigued veteran or the self-medicated drunks that fill park benches.

"ONE LAST LOOK"
18 X 12"

Painting "One Last Look" was humbling and  an act of redemption for me. It made me acknowledge my own misguided views of women and the hidden cultivated stigmas placed by society that systematically limit their pursuit for self-fulfillment. Herein, you see those stigmas busy at work on a young lady gripped in conflict by her desire to grow and the  emotional fear of failure. I hoped to have  captured that brief moment where she desperately comes to term with taught limitations and the growing urge to reach her full potential.  I truly hope this work of art will be a help to you as it has been for me in serving a cause much higher than my own.

Art making is an Interactions between the elements and emotions.  In its' broadest sense it becomes a form of communication that holds meaning to the artist's intent. This meaning is shaped by the artist's materials, techniques, and forms.  tt makes use of, as well as the ideas and feelings it creates in the viewers .
