1945 Receiving the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman
Mr. Williams is not only honored for storming the beach that day, he is also remembered for other acts of bravery, one for which he received the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award for valor. Armed with a flamethrower, he maneuvered for hours through unremitting enemy fire to take out seven pillboxes where the opposing armed forces had hunkered down to repel the U.S. invasion of the island.
Mr. Williams weighed 3½ pounds at birth and was not expected to live. His mother, Lurenna, named him Hershel for the local doctor who reached the farm three days later.
By the time he was born in 1923 several of his siblings had already died in the 1918-1919 flu pandemic. His father, Lloyd, died of a heart attack when Hershel was 11. |

This rigid style is not for everybody, nor was it for some of the worlds most famous artists like Van Gogh, Dali, and Picasso. They thought outside of the box, and so can we all. The creative side is expressed in many forms and ways. It's easy to spot! It's that one thing you are good at doing, and, feel good at doing it...
